Fast Forward 6 1/2 Months Later…..

Wowzers… It has definitely been over 6 months since our last post, that is sorta super depressing! So many things have happened in the last few months, my head is still spinning!

Most importantly, Heather’s dog, Pepper, was diagnosed withย osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in her back leg and had it removed. She is now our little tripod and is SO much happier and healthier! The vet says she is doing great and her next lung scan is in July ๐Ÿ™‚

It is really hard to imagine life without our sweet P! During the uncertain times, I ran across a really great article that I think would be great for anyone going through this kind of situation and just thought I’d share!

This is definitely one of the biggest things that has happened, and makes us realize how much our pet are family to us!

Definitely intending to post much more often, so if there is anything you’d like to see or share, please let us know!

On the Road Again…. As the Orders Pour On In….

So, once again, I have been quite the jetsetter recently – This week included another trip to Brookyn, NY, Pittsburgh and Morgantown, WV. All over the northeast and I DO NOT understand who can live in that cold, it is just torture for me!!!!

But, with that definitely comes some inspiration and recognition of how much I miss being home ๐Ÿ™‚

Definitely one of the highlights of this trip was the Andy Warhol Museum – Such an amazing use of color and multiple mediums, not to mention the sheer size of his collections – Just thousands and thousands of pieces!

Sales have also been phenomenal and I have finally been able in the last few weeks to figure out our process and my bandanas are now good enough to sell, which means relief for Heather – THANK GOODNESS! But she has been a trooper and finished close to a dozen orders this week, whew! Hopefully we will actually get to turn a profit this month and get a little extra spending money for the holidays!

Here are some photos of the travels…

There were no photos allowed except for the bottom floor – definitely a huge bummer.

Fall has arrived in Brooklyn!

Ice Rink now up in Rockefeller Center in NYC – Incredibly pretty, can’t wait to go back and see the tree!

Halloween Has Hit SDS Like a Wrecking Ball – No Naked Miley Cyrus Included.

Hey all! Sorry for the lack of posting lately, the world has been anything but boring lately.

Pittsburgh, New York City, Lafayette, and Now in Albuquerque – I’m tired.

But enough of that, holy crap the Etsy shop has been CRAZY! We had 5 Halloween capes and two bandanas sell last week alone. And ya’ll, the custom orders have been anything but ordinary!

We made a Dr. Strange Cape (I had to google this character – comics aren’t really my thing!) – I mean come on, that’s awesome. AWESOME. Like, EXTRAORDINARY.

We also had a girl contact us saying that she, her husband and two dogs always dress as a themed family for Halloween, so they bought a pair of matching dinosaur capes to match their cave man outfits –ย Can’t beat that cuteness.

It is really cool to see how willing and far people will go to create the perfect costume for their pet!

Heather has been a CHAMP about these custom orders – Making sure we send photos prior to shipping and really spending time on these designs to make them perfect for the customer. As time consuming as it seems, I really feel like this is the extra effort we provide to make sure our customers are receiving EXACTLY what they are asking for! I think that when next Halloween rolls around, they will know exactly where to go ๐Ÿ™‚ย

I just can’t say enough sweet things about our fans – Whether on FB, Twitter, Instagram, or our BLOG – THANK YOU for all the support and if you are interested in a Halloween costume for your pet, let us know – Because we may have to start turning people away – Or I need to get my sewing ass in gear!

Anyhoots – Love ya’ll ๐Ÿ™‚ย

Happy Birthday from Pittsburgh!

Hey all! Just a quick note to wish Heather, fellow co-owner and badass seamstress, a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!ย

Nothing that new to report on the business end, as I am in Pittsburgh this week for work and Heather has had some concerts and lots of symphony practices for the last week or so!

With Halloween around the corner, I am really hoping our shop picks up in the next few weeks…. and not three days before the holiday! When we first discussed opening the shop, we wanted to primarily do costumes but kinda abandoned the idea once we got into the Etsy world. Needless to say, I am SO happy we came back to it, and I know Heather really loves to work on the custom orders – Hopefully in the next few weeks, I’ll be able to take over sewing bandanas so she has more time to focus on those custom designs that she is amazing at!

So…. I just want to take a deep breath and rant for a few lines – Feel free to skip ๐Ÿ™‚

I am very active on the Etsy Forums – I find FANTASTIC new shops that way, and learn new information from Etsy sellers on a daily basis! Not to mention that it is fantastic exposure to potential clients that purchase from Etsy all the time!

Yet, there are people there who’s only goal is to BITCH about how terrible Etsy is – Yes, it has some flaws, and yes, the review system changed and it is super different and not necessarily the easiest to use, and YES, admins do have to block complaints and Etsy bashing in general – But seriously, GET OVER IT. Work around it, spend more time for follow-up and just keep on trucking! If Etsy hasn’t changed it in over a month of CONSTANT complaints, then just MOVE THE FUCK ON. Rant, ended.

Owning a business is hard work and things change, you just have to make adjustments and keep on going – With over 90 million users to manage, change and innovation is the name of the game.

Let’s just hope we can all keep up!

Oh and Heather made a galaxy-inspired sweet ass new bandana that I had to post – It is my new fav!

CHA-CHING X 2 – A First for SDS

Good morning sunshine, the earth says helllllooooooo! – Can you name that movie? A: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (Tim Burton version).ย

Trivia is not my specialty.

Ok, so anywho, I have something exciting to share – Yesterday was the first time we received two sales on Etsy within the hour – WHAM BAM THANK YOU MA’MM! One was our red/black chevron design and is going to Lubbock (Home of Texas Tech, where Heather and I both went to school), so I felt super close to that sale! It is also the first time we sold a true ‘inventory’ item – As in, already made and listed in the shop, no extra work necessary, which is great since Heather has been beyond swamped lately ๐Ÿ™‚

So, curtsey, cue Miss America wave, and a BIG ‘I LOVE YA’LL’ and ‘THANK YOU’ to everyone who has been supporting us over the last few months. It is fantastic to see our shop grow and I am proud to have made it this far!

Heather made this really cute and preppy bandana, I had to share ๐Ÿ™‚ย
